| Duties: The Sudbury Star is seeking a Multimedia Journalist who can deliver well-crafted news and feature stories, take excellent photographs and video, develop specific beats and lay out eye-catching news pages. This is a 5-month maternity leave position commencing immediately, with the possibility of developing into permanent employment. Responsibilities The successful candidate is expected to: - Look for and write stories with an eye toward Greater Sudbury’s cultural and entertainment communities, developing trends and exploring the way we live in the North. - Cover news stories as assigned from the city desk; - Work well with editors under extremely tight deadlines; - Work flexible hours during the day, night and weekends, and; - Fulfill occasional editing duties, chiefly at night. Candidates should understand that The Sudbury Star's online presence is critical to the newspaper’s future and must be able to generate breaking stories and photographs for immediate posting to the internet. This position will report to the City Editor during the day and the Night News Editor overnight. |
| Qualifications: The successful candidate will hold a college diploma or university degree in print-journalism. Experience at a daily newspaper will be considered a major asset. Training for editing duties will be provided, but knowledge of QuarkXpress will be considered an asset. The candidate will have a valid driver’s license and a dependable vehicle for use at work.
